in 2014, the editorial office at the society for general microbiology was delighted to receive over 4000 article submissions. of these submissions, 80% were sent out for peer review.

the dedication of all our reviewers is greatly appreciated by both our editors and authors. these experts volunteer their valuable time and expertise to provide high quality, constructive feedback to authors. on behalf of the editorial office at the society and the editorial boards of microbiology, journal of general virology (jgv), journal of medical microbiology (jmm), international journal of systematic and evolutionary microbiology (ijsem) and jmm case reports (jmmcr), i would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who reviewed a paper for us in 2014.

during the last year, 925 people reviewed for microbiology, 895 reviewed for jgv, 862 reviewed for jmm, 640 reviewed for ijsem and 248 reviewed for jmmcr. we are proud to have such a large, diverse community of reviewers.

the society’s journals now use the manuscript tracking system editorial manager. this means that reviewers are able to list the keywords related to their area of expertise in their user profile. for jmm and jmmcr they can also select from a pre-defined list of classifications. this enables them to be more discoverable in the editors’ searches, whilst at the same time ensuring that we approach reviewers regarding papers relevant to their expertise. we have also streamlined the process to submit the reviewer’s report.

to update your personal keywords, please log in to editorial manager and click on ‘update my information’. if you are a reviewer for more than one society journal, you will only need to do this once. the relevant editorial manager sites are here: microbiology, jgv, jmm, jmmcr, and ijsem.

please find the published lists of reviewers in 2014 here: microbiology, jgv, jmm, jmmcr and ijsem.

we recognise the invaluable voluntary work that our peer reviewers contribute, and are considering different ways to recognise this. if you have any suggestions of how we can do this, please contact our editorial office.
