understanding and predicting microbial evolutionary dynamics took place on 22–23 november 2022 at the hyatt regency manchester, uk. in this blog, we take a look at the highlights from twitter.
#microevo22 was our biggest focused meeting of 2022! the programme was filled with scientific talks and poster presentations from experts across the world in the field of microbial evolution. we were excited to welcome back familiar faces and welcome others to their first-ever conference!

very excited for #microevo22 starting tomorrow, phenomenal speaker line-up! i'm co-chairing the predicting microbial evolution session with @microtanya, and i'll be presenting a poster (no.30) on my phd work around regulatory network evolution! https://t.co/en9vkxobfg

did some pre-conference networking @officialuom ahead of #microevo22. awesome to get to present and great to meet everyone, thanks to @dannagifford for hosting me! pic.twitter.com/0tkpq6djor

scientific sessions
the scientific sessions at #microevo22 were designed to give delegates a forum to discuss the latest microbial evolution research. the programme featured talks by invited speakers from across the world, which provided a great opportunity for those working in the field to share ideas, network and collaborate.
thanks to @brockhurstlab for organising such a fantastic meeting with @gallie_jenna @stinekevanhoute & @jpjhall at #microevo22 and thanks to mike for explaining the value of publishing in @microbiosoc journals #publishingforthecommunity happy to talk to people about our portfolio pic.twitter.com/2qflrp9sxu

packed auditorium for @microbiosoc #microevo22 conference - the largest outside of the society’s annual meeting and my first irl conf’ since 2019 - already reconnecting with old friends. https://t.co/h29g1er2ad pic.twitter.com/elhyogswaz

first day in manchester at #microevo22. interesting and educative talks by @elzehesse and katharine coyte in the 2nd session: drivers and dynamics of evolution in microbial communities. pic.twitter.com/jgomyem0tp

poster sessions
the poster sessions showcased the diversity of research within the microbial evolution community. our delegates were able to share their work, and discuss and exchange ideas with one another, giving plenty of opportunities for early career researchers to present their work too!
in manchester for #microevo22 @microbiosoc poster number 53, come see me chat about tradis, piptazo and cool experimental evolution work happening at @thequadram pic.twitter.com/ghkr3fn7wj

come along to see my poster (number 49) and chat about some bacterial community evolution in wild. pic.twitter.com/tjnf9b16ex
fantastic to be at #microevo22 today presenting my 1st poster in person. welcome to come and chat with me tomorrow if your are also interested in oxidative stress adaptation (poster no.9!). pic.twitter.com/vaub7kpm0v

can transposon libraries be used to predict evolution? we think they can! come and see mat's poster no 4 at #microevo22 pic.twitter.com/zu5bbcbso6

i shared my phd work under the supervision of @gallie_jenna and collaborating with @evoltheoarne and @florencebansept on the evolutionary fate of the unstable large duplication in sbw25.
in short, we found smaller duplication and alternative mutations arose. pic.twitter.com/mlccykhd1t
thank you for attending
thank you to all the organisers, speakers, poster presenters and delegates who joined us at the focused meeting and helped make it a success! we look forward to welcoming you to future conferences in our events programme.
