17 february 2022 – society conference grants: awards of up to £380 to support eligible members presenting their work at the annual conference 2022. applicants may also use this grant scheme to apply for support for their caring needs.

20 february 2022 – harry smith vacation studentships: awards of up to £2,720 to help undergraduates get their first experience of research projects and give early and mid-career researchers the chance to gain supervisory experience.

1 march 2022 – travel grants: up to £750 for members presenting work at meetings or attending short courses. all events (in person and digital) should take place from 1 april–30 june 2022.

nominations are open for the 2023 prize lectures and 2024 prize medal. all members are welcome to show their appreciation for scientists undertaking excellent work through our prizes, which cover all aspects of microbiology including outreach, teaching, translational research and early career excellence. find out more and submit before 26 may 2022.

we have published a position statement entitled safeguarding the future of the microbiology research and innovation workforce, calling for employers, funders and governments to prioritise and better support ecms. please circulate the position statement widely as the whole community has a role to play in changing research culture.
