the covid-19 pandemic has underlined the importance of effectively translating academic research into the clinic and for the management of public health. from population genomics to structural biology and transcriptomics to host-microbe interactions, researching the fundamentals of microbiology allows us to respond to recurrent and emerging problems. this session will explore the exciting research that has potential for translation to global challenges, not only in healthcare but also for the environment.
microbes have been harnessed for their wonderful properties for millennia. this session will present research that is using microbes to improve food production, generate novel antimicrobials, and form the basis for countless pharmaceutical processes.
