yesterday, we released our vision statement for knocking out antimicrobial resistance, the society's new cross-disciplinary project. it outlined the key issues faced by the amr community: the lack of understanding of the urgency of the crisis, a fragmented amr landscape and a broken innovation pipeline.
so for this special knocking out amr episode of microbe talk clare spoke to professor paul hoskisson to pick his brain on his latest venture: a one million pound project to use food by-products make antimicrobial production more cost effective and sustainable.

improving access to research and data is a topic many of our members are passionate about. humane technologies is a company set up by some microbiologists from the university of warwick. humane technologies have developed an affordable photometer that allows continuous monitoring of microbial growth, called microbemeter. below, they explain what inspired them to make this equipment freely available and why you shouldn't need huge amounts of funding to make important scientific discoveries.

science and the assembly 2018

this year, on 22 may, the 14th annual science and the assembly took place in cardiff. organised by the royal society of chemistry, it brought together representatives from key scientific industries in wales to speak about the important links between science and industry, and how they support welsh infrastructure. a large number of learned societies and professional bodies attended alongside members of the national assembly for wales with the aim of fostering closer engagement between the sector and policymakers.
