in anticipation to #microbio22, our delegates were looking forward to four days of symposia, workshops, forums, offered oral presentations, prize lectures from eminent microbiologists, socials and networking opportunities!

we had delegates who were excited to attend their first in-person conference!

some delegates took the opportunity of being in belfast to explore attractions such as the giant's causeway pre-conference.

we were delighted to welcome our members who, despite some travel mishaps, were able to join us for a fantastic four days of science!

many delegates were looking forward to the multiple social events taking place in person for the first time in three years!

for the first time, delegates were also looking forward to a lgbtq+ networking event at #microbio22.

delegates shared and promoted their talks pre-conference using the virtual event platform.

as annual conference 2022 commenced, our president del besra and chief executive peter cotgreave welcomed over 1,300 microbiologists to #microbio22!

prize lectures

we were delighted to host several prize lectures throughout the week. the talks featured the significant scientific contributions of eminent microbiologists from across the world. this included both in-person and pre-recorded talks. here are some highlights below.

scientific sessions

our scientific sessions at #microbio22 included symposia, workshops, forums for both invited speakers and offered oral presentations. this provided multiple opportunities to showcase research from both early career and established microbiologists. here are some highlights below:

we were happy to see first-time conference attendees enjoying the sessions!

posters

as we returned to poster presentations in person, our presenters were able to share their work, and discuss and exchange ideas with their peers face to face! here are some happy faces below!

social sessions

we were delighted to host in-person social sessions again to create a space for delegates to engage with their peers outside of the main scientific programme. all four of our social events were sold out!

our delegates also enjoyed socialising outside of the planned social programmes for the first time in three years!

annual conference 2022 bits and bobs, and feedback post-conference

our chief executive peter cotgreave met an adorable junior peter thanks to the crèche service!

we are thrilled at how useful the crèche service was for parents at conference, helping them attend and enjoy science!

members shared their thoughts at the society stand on how we can continue to be more inclusive and representative by talking to those in our new members’ panel

here we have our infamous covid-19 ‘giantmicrobes’ keyrings, that were a favourite amongst our scientists!

we celebrated publishing for the community as part of our founding journal microbiology’s 75th anniversary.

feedback received from delegates was overwhelmingly positive, and we were thrilled to hear about their experiences at conference!

not only did we have human attendees, but we also had a very good dog named chance attend the conference!

after four days filled with exciting science, we hope delegates were able to control your happy feet!

on behalf of everyone at the 英格兰vs美国谁会赢? , we want to say a huge thank you to all who attended, presented and helped chair and co-chair sessions at annual conference 2022. we hope you enjoyed the in-person event as much as we did, and we look forward to welcoming you back for annual conference 2023 in birmingham!
